Auckland Airport

Project: Construction of a new domestic terminal that will be around three times the size of the current domestic facility, with shared check-in for international and domestic travelers. It will include expanded contiguous security screening and large, light-filled dwell spaces with views across the airfield to Manukau Harbour. A new transportation hub is also planned for outside the existing international terminal, providing a covered pickup/drop-off area, valet services and covered parking lots connected to the terminal by an enclosed pedestrian bridge.

Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport

Location: Shenzhen, China

Project: The new Terminal 2 at Bao’an International Airport will deliver a new 450,000m2 terminal building with 53 stands and connections to the midfield satellite. The aim is to accommodate 31 million passengers per year (24 million international and seven million domestic). The terminal is designed as a multimodal transportation facility with direct connections, through a central garden, to public transit systems that thousands of people will use every day. The design provides Shenzhen with a contemporary terminal with a particular focus on passenger experience, well-being and sustainability.

Project: The Terminal 3 project at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport is the largest reconstruction and expansion project in the history of civil airports in China. The airport will become the civil hub with the largest number of runways in China once the project is completed. The architectural concept was intended to be the ‘floral city crown’. Up to 70% of the building materials in the project will be 'green'. Upon completion in 2025, passenger capacity is expected to exceed 90 million with a cargo volume of over 2,600,000 tons.

Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) Airport Terminal

Location: Poland

Project: Foster + Partners – supported by Netherlands Airport Consultants (NACO), Buro Happold and others – won the design competition for the CPK Airport terminal, main railway station and public transportation interchange and was appointed as master architect, with Buro Happold as structural engineer and NACO as airport terminal, landside and railway station planner, as well as wayfinding, BHS, IT, security and special systems designer. The passenger terminal will cover around 400,000m2 and be seamlessly integrated with public transportation facilities, including bus, e-hauling, vertiports and a station with six platforms and 12 tracks for regional and high-speed long-distance trains, creating a multimodal hub for Central and Eastern Europe.

Project: The ATLNext 2030 masterplan will expand and improve airport facilities and infrastructure to accommodate anticipated growth. Projects include the Concourse E expansion and Concourse D widening. Ramp 6 North, Concourse E 3-Gate Expansion: The expansion of Concourse E is part of an overall gate realignment effort and one of multiple enabling projects for Concourse D widening. The three additional Group 3-capable gates will provide critical operational capacity while several gates at a time are closed for widening of Concourse D. The E expansion will be a 30,000ft2 (2,800m2) two-story facility connected back to the Concourse E North gates by a passenger bridge. The boarding level will contain holdrooms, concessions and restrooms. Concourse D widening: This is part of a US$1.4bn program with several enabling projects. The Concourse D widening project will feature modular construction and traditional building methods. The capacity of the concourse will be increased to maximize the use of Group 3 aircraft.

Location: Oregon

Project: Construction of a new main terminal that will effectively double the airport's overall size. The new terminal’s mass-timber roof was built using modular construction within the airport property. Approximately 20 mass-timber sections are currently being transported into place and erected, and mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems installed. The modular construction of the new terminal has increased construction speed, reduced costs and improved the quality of construction and design.

San Antonio International Airport

Project: The Terminal Development Program (TDP) includes a new 800,000ft2 (74,000m2), 17-gate international terminal designed to accommodate the continued growth of the San Antonio region.

San Diego International Airport

Location: California

Project: First phase of a new Terminal 1 facility including 19 gates, an elevated departures roadway, open-air check-in pavilions, a dedicated, on-airport arrivals roadway and a five-story parking plaza. Phase 2 will provide 11 new gates.

Start: 2022

Completion: Phase 1, 2025; Phase 2, 2028

Cost: US$3.4bn (total)

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport

Location: Washington

Project: Modernization of the north main terminal. Known as the SEA Gateway Project, the development is intended to rejuvenate the 40-year-old check-in lobby and existing promenade. An expansion of the security checkpoint will accelerate processing, and upgrades to the baggage handling system will improve speed and reliability. Additionally, the C Concourse Expansion nearly triples the size of the concourse, creating a new destination through placemaking, sustainability and signature architecture.

Southwest Florida International Airport

Location: Florida

Project: Transformation of more than 15,200m2 of terminal space, including the consolidation of TSA checkpoints into a new 16-lane configuration and the provision of additional seating, walkways and concession space.

Cost: US$331m

Tampa International Airport

Location: Florida

Project: Construction of the Airside D terminal will include 16 gates serving domestic and international travel. It will enable the airport to serve an additional 13 million passengers per year by 2037. The building will cover 52,300m2 and include concessions space; an outdoor terrace; security facilities; and new screening, gate check-in and bag processing technologies.

Start: January 2024

Completion: 2028

Cost: US$787m

Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport

Location: Alaska

Project: The new Anchorage Airport air traffic control tower and base building will stand over 300ft (91m) tall and accommodate up to 10 traffic control operators. The tower will include a new radar facility at its base that will control air traffic in the Anchorage airspace.

Tulsa International Airport

Location: Oklahoma

Project: Airside expansion creating a new commercial departures lounge and immigration facilities supporting commercial and general aviation flight activity.

Vancouver International Airport

Location: Canada

Project: The YVR 2037 Master Plan includes expanded terminals, new taxiways, a geoexchange heating and cooling system and upgraded roads and bridges. The project will increase the capacity of the airport to 35 million passengers per year.

Completion: 2037

Cost: US$4.2bn

Washington Dulles International Airport

Location: Virginia

Project: Construction of Tier 2 Concourse (East), a modern 14-gate facility with convenient access to the airport’s underground AeroTrain system and new shops, restaurants and other customer services. This will replace gates built in the 1990s at the eastern end of Concourse A.

Completion: 2026

Cost: US$500-800m

William P. Hobby Airport

Location: Texas

Project: Expansion of the West Concourse will add one additional common-use international gate and six additional preferential-use domestic gates. This 300,000ft2 (27,870m2) expansion will also include a complete renovation of the baggage claim hall (including one of the first crossbelt sortation installations in the US), replacement of the Southwest inbound and outbound BHS system, a new departures curbside canopy and landscaped plaza, and infrastructure upgrades and capacity increase. The security screening checkpoint layout will also be expanded to increase capacity to meet the additional West Concourse demand.

Cost: US$470m
